Each player starts with a land colonist in Basilia and a sea colonist in Colonia Agrippina; new colonists go in either. For the Architect each sea colonist counts 2 steps instead of 1; sea colonists travel only on rivers and may share a river section, while land colonists travel between cities and castles, one per line. Houses can never be built on castles. With the Tribune, a land colonist on a line touching a castle with a bonus marker may take exactly one such marker into your storehouse (food or tool from it can pay for the new colonist at once).
