One action is to reserve a development card: take a face-up card from the table, or the top card of any level's deck without showing it, and also take 1 gold. Keep reserved cards in your hand. You may never hold more than 3 reserved cards, and the only way to get rid of one is to buy it.
With The Trading Posts: The Black Trading Post lets you draw 2 cards from a deck, keep 1 and return the other.
With The Strongholds: A card holding an opponent's Stronghold can't be reserved; reserving a card holding your own takes them back.
